Shocker Brew 11/27: These Guys Deserve A Tournament
Today, we're wishing that the Shocker volleyball season was just a little bit longer.
Good morning! If there’s a better way to start a workweek than watching Harlond Beverly’s scoop-and-score, we don’t know it.
What all are we mixing into today’s Brew?
🏀 Kenny Pohto’s big day propels Shockers to victory
🏐 “These guys deserve a tournament.”
🌾 And much, much more!
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 He Is Kenough. Kenny Pohto scored a season-high 25 points and controlled the Wichita State offense, leading the Shockers to an 80-67 win over Norfolk State Saturday night in Charles Koch Arena.
Wichita State, winners of six of their first seven games, overcame a rare off night from Xavier Bell and Colby Rogers to improve to 4-0 at home this season. Bell and Rogers combined for just 13 points on 3-of-19 shooting.
The 6-1 start for head coach Paul Mills ties the best seven-game start to a Wichita State coaching career since 1971.
🔼 Looking Forward. Dayton dominated the battle of the boards as the Flyers defeated Wichita State by a score of 74-63 on Saturday morning at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center.
Salese Blow scored a career-high 20 points to lead all scoring, and Tre'Zure Jobe tied her Division I career high with 16 points. Daniela Abies finished with 10 points herself for the fifth-consecutive game as she and Ornella Niankan recorded a team-high 5 rebounds apiece.
📆 Wichita State returns home for a four-game stretch in Charles Koch Arena starting tomorrow night with Southeastern Louisiana. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
🤔 SHOCKER TRIVIA
Fresh start. We mentioned above that Paul Mills’ 6-1 start this season ties the best seven-game start to a Wichita State coaching career since 1971.
Our question today—who was that coach back in 1971 who started with six wins in his first seven games?

🌾 ONE BIG THING
Wichita State's regular season is over, but the Shockers do not sound like a team that is done with volleyball for the winter.
The Shockers swept UAB in three sets last week at Koch Arena to solidify a second-place finish in the American Athletic Conference, their best since the 2017 title. Wichita State (21-8, 15-4 AAC) is No. 61 in the NCAA's RPI, making an at-large NCAA bid unlikely.
"We're playing some of our best volleyball right now," senior left Brylee Kelly said. "A lot of chemistry is increasing on the court. Practices are flowing good."
