Shocker Brew 3/18: Two Series Wins

The baseball and softball teams both won their series this past weekend.

Good morning! We hope you had a fun Saint Patrick’s Day! Now it’s time to bleed black and yellow again for the Shockers!

What are we mixing into today’s Brew?

🥎 Series win over East Carolina
⚾️ Series win over Gonzaga
🌾 And much, much more!

🌾 ONE BIG THING

Updates Coming. The outfield hill, Coleman Hill, at Eck Stadium is a fan favorite. You’ll see a crowd of people there with blankets, coolers, grills and heckling the outfielders. Now, the grass is about to get an upgrade. Fans are allowed to bring in food and beverages in sealed containers and small gas grills again.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼  Shocked the Pirates. The softball team won its series against East Carolina 4-1, 6-5 and 9-1. The team didn’t hold back in game one, as Taylor Sedlacek hit a grand slam in the first inning. She continued her excellent performance at the plate in game two, going 3-for-3 with a double, home run and three RBIs. In game three, the Shockers only need five innings to take down the Pirates. This was the team’s first series sweep of the season.

🔼  Hot Bats. The baseball team picked up a series win over Gonzaga this past weekend. The team won 10-6, 10-5 and 4-3. The Shockers had 15 hits in game one, including a grand slam from Jordan Rogers. In game two, Seth Stroh smashed a 448-foot bomb to the right for a three-run homer. Wichita was down 3-0 in the third game, but the bats got hot in the sixth and seventh innings to tie it up. Rogers came in clutch again and banged out an RBI double to take the lead and win.

🔼  Upset Alert! The women’s tennis team upset No. 47 ranked Denver 4-1. The Shockers won the doubles point for the second straight match. The team won all three doubles matches and all but one singles match.

🔼  Round Up. The women’s golf team finished in 14th place at the Red Rocks Invitational. The team had a final score of 907 (+43). Lauren Thiele was the top Shocker in round one. She hit an even-par on the back nine to finish just three-over in the first round.
